Germanna Foundation Siegen Forest Red Trail

During operating hours, the Memorial Foundation of the Germanna Colonies in Virginia, Inc., allows visitors to enjoy hiking trails in the Siegen Forest behind the Germanna Visitor Center. There are several trails with varying degrees of difficulty and length. The red trail begins at the Germanna Foundation Visitor Center, and ends State route 601 (Flat Run Road) near Route 3. This is not a loop trail, and there is no parking available at the 601 trailhead. The whole trail is 3 miles long, but is marked every half-mile. The trail passes through the Siegen Forest and along the Rapidan River. Picnic sites are available near the river. Trees are marked with interpretative signs that contain QR (Quick Reference) codes. Scan these with an I-phone or Android with free software to show you the Virginia Department of Forestry web site for more complete information on the tree.
